Your floors likely need refinishing if you see widespread scratches, worn areas where the finish has worn through to bare wood, water stains, or overall dullness that cleaning can’t fix. If you can see the wood grain clearly in high-traffic areas, the protective finish is probably gone.
Another test is the water drop test – put a small drop of water on your floor. If it soaks in within a few minutes, your finish is worn and needs renewal. If it beads up and sits on the surface, your finish is still protecting the wood.
Most hardwood floors need refinishing every 7-10 years with normal use, but this varies based on traffic, pets, and how well they’ve been maintained. We provide free assessments to determine whether your floors need refinishing, just repair work, or if replacement would be more cost-effective.
